100 Day Challenge [Days 11-20]

dogeDIG:
Development continued with the digging mechanic revamp.
Additionally UI template/screens have also been setup, which involved finishing temporary/placeholder screens and navigation for most of the initial menu system. Some of this has been in the game for a while now, and earlier this year I brought the whole menu system back to basics graphically (I’ll make it look better once the game is in Alpha). But for this past 10 days I added screens for things like the settings menu, achievements screen(s), scoreboard and reworked the ‘start game’ menu flow and just generally sorted out bugs and improved navigation.

This ticks off 2 more tasks on the ‘Roadmap to Alpha’, taking completion to 32%.

Shader Dev:
Not much shader dev during these past 10 days but I did take on some screen-space shaders. I’m experimenting with the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) in Unity currently and it turns out getting screen space shaders working with that pipeline can be a bit tricky. But managed to work it out thanks to this tutorial by gamedevbill. After finding that tutorial I was able to put together some simple screen space effects.

I’ll probably work on another screen-space shader this upcoming 10 days, theres one or two I’ll need for dogeDIG so it would be nice to make a start there.
