100 Days of Dev [Day 1-of-100]
With the March challenge wrapped up its time to start the actual challenge.
So here we are at Day 1-of-100!
I’ll get into a quick overview of the challenge goals and rules below.
The Projects I’ll be focusing on for my 2019 100 Days of Dev Challenge are as follows :
Primary Project: ‘Project Blue Shell’
A project I’ve had in the back of my mind for a few years now this is primarily a 3D scanning project focused around developing my skills using Photogrammetry. *(Photogrammetry is the process of making 3D geometry, ie a 3D scan, of an object via photography)
This is the project I’ll be putting the majority of my time into and I will say it also goes beyond 3D scanning as well – but Ive decided to not show all aspects of the project as it develops. That is until its a bit further along. So unfortunately the work I show during the next 100 days will be limited. But it should still interesting to write about certain elements of the project as it progresses, there will be plenty to see!

Secondary Project(s): Game Development
The second half of the challenge is just like my past two 100 day challenges – ie Game Development projects.
If you followed my past challenge you would have seen me working a lot on my mobile game ‘dogeDIG’ – a mobile game project about being a dog and digging. I plan on continuing with its development during this challenge.
As well as dogeDIG I’ve also got some smaller projects, including a D&D related prototype to experiment with, some online multiplayer programming tests and likely other misc game projects such as whatever I work on for the Ludum Dare game-jam later this April.

Additional Goals: Health!
This was important during my 2018 100 Days of Game Dev Challenge – after learning the hard way during my 2017 Challenge after I put my health and fitness aside to push to get work done.
Every challenge since then Ive made sure to stay on top of diet and exercise while pushing to be productive. Looking after yourself is just as important as the dev work itself!
So over the next 100 days I’ll be putting a solid amount of time and focus into the gym, keeping up with cardio, hiking, bike riding and healthy eating and meals and the most difficult thing – decent sleep!
The challenge Rules this time round:
Minimum Time: 30mins minimum work on a 100 days project, every day, 100 consecutive days. If I break that and miss a day, then it defaults to a challenge of what ?/100 days can I make productive? 80%? 90%? 99%? Either way after the 100 days I’ll have some progress with projects and a challenge to look back on and review what went right/wrong.
Projects Count: Only work on specified projects counts (and Ill be keeping track of hour stats)
Focus to Achieve: Work done must be as focused as possible (minimal distractions/procrastination)
Straight Priorities: Unlike the past challenges, this time I’ll be focusing on making sure the primary project is the priority, thats where I need to be spending the majority of my time, and Ill be tracking that via the hour stats. Even if I put 30 hours over a weekend into a misc project (looking at you Ludum Dare) I’ll still need to make sure the primary project is ahead of that..

Time to get into it!
Only 99 Days to go.

YESSS ALEX!! I love this post. Especially the inclusion of health related goals! Nice one! (Make sure you get your flu shot for +5 to health)
Haha yep for sure, cant be going and spending days/weeks sick mid-challenge anyway! That kills the health.
Thanks tho! 😀
