Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Hello one and all, I’m Louise and for the 100 Day Challenge I am making a travel blog. I returned in January 2018 after 6 months of study, travel and adventure in Europe and the UK. I did a lot of camping, hiking and swimming. It was a lot of fun.

On top of a mountain, near Hveragerði, Iceland

Here are some of the things I plan to blog about:

  • World Scout Moot held in Iceland in July 2017, where I was one of 5000 Rover Scouts from over 90 different countries. My Patrol contained people from UK, Switzerland, Czechia, Austria and Brazil. We spent our time camping and hiking over the moss-covered mountains, and we also had the chance to do community work. I also went horse riding, snorkelling, puffin spotting and various sightseeing tours.
  • Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland, a campsite beneath the Alpes, where some of the Australian Contingent from the Moot came to camp and explore. We went to Bern, Interlaken and did a few more adventurous activities including zip lining, bridge jumping and chocolate and cheese tours.
  • France, particularly the Loire Valley, where I visited two amazing Chateaux and stayed at an Airbnb with a French speaking family.
  • London, which I visited numerous times and stayed in 4 different hostels. I did a lot of the major attractions and some specialised tours including Tour for Muggles.
  • Reviews of Contiki, Topdeck, and Haggis Tours (through Busabout). I went on a 21-day camping trip with Contiki which included France, Spain, Monaco, Italy and Greece. With Topdeck I did a 10-day Eastern Europe tour which included Hungary, Austria, Czechia, Germany and The Netherlands. Finally, with Haggis Tours I did a 5-day tour of Bonnie Scotland which included the Isle of Skye and Loch Ness.
  • Various day trips to places in the UK including Cardiff, Alnwick Castle (used in the first Harry Potter films), Oxford, Bath, Liverpool, Chester, York…..
  • Tips about traveling alone, camping, travel, transport, accommodation and the like.

During this challenge I would like to:

  • Learn how to make a website (using Wix – nothing crazy, I’m not a programmer!) which includes various media content
  • Improve my writing skills
  • Improve my time management skills, by meeting deadlines with polished and completed work
  • Use the blog as a platform to demonstrate my knowledge of the Tourism industry, by using academic material to support my experiences (in an interesting way, of course)

I hope that by the end of the challenge I can expand my reviews to include local businesses, and my experiences within Australia. I have two other international trips pencilled in before the end of the year. I hope these will also make it into the blog.

Finally, I want to write all my adventures down because I don’t want to forget the amazing things I have experienced. Perhaps when I’m old, grey and boring (if I make it past the apocalypse) I can sit down and read it, and remember, yes, I did swim between two tectonic plates in Iceland, jump off a bridge in Switzerland and camp under the olive trees in Sorrento…

Watch this space for a link to the website when it goes live! 😀
