Elari raised her hand and the two in the ring stopped to face her.

“Dracia, Kaden, enough for now. I require the ring.” Elari barked.

“Yes, sir!” The pair snapped to attention, placing their left fist over their chests, before turning and stepping out.

“Alright, runt, in you go.” Elari ordered, shoving Saren forward.

“Wa-wait, I’m fighting you?” Saren stammered, almost tripping as he was pushed.

“Yep, you got that right. Don’t worry, I’ll go easy on you, Saren. Just show me what you can do.” She chuckled in reply, a grin appearing on her face.

Saren felt nervous again as he walked into the centre of the ring. He turned to face Elari as she began tightening the straps on her armour. She then selected a wooden training sword from a rack near the edge and began to make her way up toward Saren.

Saren drew his sword and tossed the scabbard off to the side. He looked at the blade in his hand, feeling unsure of himself at this moment.

“Won’t that… umm… get broken easily?” He asked, nodding toward the wooden weapon in Elari’s hand.

She grinned again. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. And I don’t want to injure you too much.”

As she got close to Saren, Elari drew the sword across the palm of her left hand, and the wooden blade seemed to glow momentarily.

She then crouched low into a defensive stance and gestured Saren to attack.

Saren drew a deep breath and focused his mind on the task at hand. His sword feeling light in his grip. The tip of the blade almost touched the ground as Saren readied himself.

Then, springing forward off his left foot, Saren rushed in for an attack, bringing his sword up as he did so. Elari nimbly stepped to the side and deflected the blow, causing Saren’s eyes to widen as she smacked him across the back with her own blade.

Elari stepped away, shaking her head sadly. “Slow moves like that will not do you any good. You must move swiftly, but smoothly. Let no hesitation show and keep your guard up at all times.”
